Drawing basic shapes to create realistic images (Nature, People, Animals).
Identify universal symbols from everyday life. Produce the moods depicted in a variety of art works with the same subjects. Identify and illustrate subjects such as product, logo and slogan. Plan, organize and produce lines to create a sense of texture on a 2-D surface. Recognize and apply satire and parody within a composition. Identify, plan and apply organic and basic shapes together in a composition to show unity. Identify, plan and construct different facial planes. Recognize and produce the repetition of design that creates a random rhythm or pattern. Identify and show techniques such as scoring, positive space and negative space. Differentiate between positive and negative spaces in a sculpture. Recognize and apply the following art terms: color, shape, line, texture and shape. Identify the elements and principles that convey meaning in a work of art. When writing, students will use precise language and domain-specific vocabulary to inform about or explain the topic. |

Identify, describe and apply techniques used by Grant Wood.
Recognize and illustrate the style Early American art. Distinguish and explain the use of repeated lines and shapes. By viewing a Masters artwork, students will recognize and point out a repeated design. Imitate a Masters work. Compare and contrast the contribution of individual artists on movements, trends, or periods. Analyze how the arts are used in commercial applications (e.g., posters, TV commercials, package design, industrial design). Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions. Demonstrate effective oral presentation skills. Listen and speak effectively for specific purposes. Determine the meaning of symbols, key terms and other domain-specific words and phrases as they are used in specific art projects. |
